ECC parents:
WGBH in Boston has produced a series of “Arthur” character-themed resources that are designed to help families talk with children about scary experience they see in their communities or on television. The MPS Early Childhood Center Preschool Program is an integrated program that addresses a wide range of children’s identified educational and developmental needs. Core to our program is Collaborative Planning which is done on a weekly basis and involves all disciplines.
Curriculum benchmarks are broken down into five categories: School Readiness, Language and Literacy, Math, Science, and Motor Skills. Portfolio assessments that address these benchmarks are completed in the fall, winter and spring for each student. Progress in each of the curriculum areas will be monitored and reported to families mid-year.
The DECA Program is administered on a universal level, across all of our integrated classrooms. Our staff assesses the needs of all students in being socially and emotionally strong and promotes interactions, activities, environments, partnerships with families, and daily programming that contribute to resiliency and academic success. For students who may require additional support in the area of social and emotional development, a more targeted approach may be required.
Preschool: PK3-Children in the PK-3 program are three years away from Kindergarten, children in the PK-2 program are two years away from Kindergarten eligibility, and children in the PK-1 classroom are one year away from Kindergarten eligibility. Each classroom is led by a certified teacher and 1-2 paraprofessionals. Inclusion assistants may also be assigned to a classroom depending on the needs of the students.
ABA Program: The goal of the MPS ABA (Applied Behavior Analysis) Program is to provide a variety of students with a diagnosis on the autism spectrum with high quality, individualized, state-of-the-art programming within a public school setting. Our program offers intensive instruction for up to 30 hours per week, depending on the individual student’s needs.
Peer Models: The Peer Model Program provides typically developing children an opportunity to interact with same age peers who are receiving specialized instruction in a developmentally appropriate classroom. This inclusion program provides a stimulating and challenging environment that offers all children a wide range of learning opportunities.
