From the Director...
September 22, 2016
Hello, everyone!

It is a busy time of year!  It is time to start switching gears from summer to fall!

School has started and the MECC has planned curriculum night for families on October 5. We will start in the conference room for about an hour, and then parents can go down to their child’s classroom and experience what a day in the life of a preschool student is!

The first Home and School meeting will take place on October 12 at the ECC from 6:30-8:00. Babysitting is provided for your child. Please come and join this great group of people who volunteer their time for the MECC students!

The Scarecrow Festival is on Friday, October 21, from 6:00-8:00 at the MECC!  Please come with your family and enjoy a great time with other MECC families!  Home and school will be selling pizza, drinks, and snacks.

Sincerely,
Andy Bernabei, Marlborough Public School Early Childhood Center Director

Hi Families!  As most of you know, I was on a medical leave to have surgery on my back. The surgery was a success and I returned to work on February 22.  It was hard being out, I am glad to be back with the students and staff here, I missed it!

The staff did a great job holding down the fort when I was out; they all stepped up and made sure everything went smoothly. I am lucky to have such dedicated teachers, specialist, paraprofessionals, and support staff here at the ECC.

I wanted to remind parents in the drop-off line to keep their children in the car until staff come out to get them. It is a safety issue and we cannot allow children out in the parking lot. Our school is also the administrative building and they have staff coming and going all day for meetings and other events. So please be courteous of them when they are trying to get into the parking lot. Thanks for your cooperation!

The MECC T-Shirts came in before the Winter break.  They look great on the students and staff.  We will be doing another order for the spring, so be looking for the order form and please contact me if you would like one.

Here are some important dates to remember in March:
  • March 10: Early dismissal for full day PK and no PM Sessions
  • March 14: Book Fair begins at ECC 9:15 a.m. to 2:15 p.m.
  • March 18: March Madness @ ECC 6:00-7:30 p.m.
  • March 30: Green Day
  • March 31: Picture Day
Sincerely,

Dear Marlborough Early Childhood Center Families,

As some of you know, I have been dealing with a back issue for the last two months. Following many tests and many doctor appointments, I have been scheduled for back surgery on Tuesday, January 19.  Unfortunately, this means my last day for several weeks is Friday, January 15.

During my 2-6 week recovery time, David Cook, Marlborough’s out of district coordinator, will be the contact administrator in my absence. David is certified as an elementary principal and as a special education administrator. He also has experience running a school building and early childhood programs. David will be placed at the ECC as the Sub-ECC director.

We also named a sub-ECC teacher leader to support staff and to help David acclimate to the setting during this time. This position has been assigned to Jeanne Kittredge.

The administrative team is confident that this temporary leadership change will provide the best coverage for our school and the best continuum of services for our students. David and Jeanne will be located in the building on a daily basis, and you can reach David by calling the main ECC number (508-460-3503) or e-mailing him at dcook@mps-edu.org. You can reach Mrs. Kittredge by calling 508-460-3503 ext. 206, or e-mailing her at jkittredge@mps-edu.org

I hope to be back as soon as possible, but until then I know that the school is in great hands!

Sincerely,
Andrew Bernabei

November 3, 2015

I can’t believe it is November already - the school year is going by so fast!  We have been very busy at the Marlborough Early Childhood Center.

The PK-1 and PK-2 classrooms recently finished their “New Beginnings” unit. They have been focusing on our schoolwide rules and classroom rules through the use of the districtwide anti-bullying program “Building a Caring Community.” Our current theme is “Falling into fall”. The students have been doing projects with apples, pumpkins, and leaves. In the next few weeks the PK-1 students will be having a “Friendship Feast.” It is a fun time of year to be in Preschool!

Last Tuesday we had professional development day. The teachers and paraeducators had a training on implanting iPads into the early childhood classroom. The workshop focused on using an iPad as an instructional tool in the early childhood classroom. In the afternoon the staff went to a training on Reaching our Youngest Readers: Strategies and Supports for Emergent Readers. They explored a variety of strategies to support emergent readers as they begin their journey into reading and writing.

The Home and School parent group held the Scarecrow Festival on October 23! We had a big turnout. It was the last day of the book fair as well. The children and adults had a great time having pizza, doing crafts, and dancing in the gym.

  • November 4: Home and School Meeting @ ECC @ 6:30pm.

September 21, 2015

Hello everyone! I am sad to see summer officially end, but looking forward to some cool fall weather. Last week was another hot one, the students settled into class and adjusted to the heat. We are getting into our school routine here. Arrival and dismissal seem to be going smoothly.  If any parents have any questions or concerns with it, please feel free to contact me.

Please remember that we do provide snack time for the students here at the ECC. You can send in fruit and vegetables, and yogurt. Please remember that we are a “Nut Free” school.

Last Thursday we had a half day. The staff all got together and we had a workshop on Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS). We starting to implement PBIS at the ECC. PBIS is a great tool to help prevent unwanted behaviors using evidence-based practices to teach new behaviors. PBIS teaches the new behaviors explicitly, mindfully, and step-by-step, keeping data to track progress toward meeting social skills goals. Ultimately, PBIS is an organizing framework for schools to determine how they want to operate as a community. The district as a whole is committed to this process, and you will see PBIS being implemented in all of the other schools as well!

The Home and School currently has the Write-a-Check Campaign and the Kid Stuff Coupon book fund-raiser going. The Kid Stuff Coupon books are great, lots of great value!

Below are some upcoming important dates for all to remember:
  • October 7 - First Home and School Meeting @ ECC @ 6:30 p.m.
  • October 8 - Picture Day at the ECC
  • October 12 & 13 -  No school, Columbus Day & Professional Development Day for Teachers
  • October 14 - Curriculum Night @ the ECC 6-8 p.m.

September 10, 2015

Welcome to the 2015-2016 school year at the MECC!

The first week of school was a huge success. The students did a great job adjusting to their new classrooms and dealt with the heat wave like little champs! Separating from parents and guardians can be tough for both children and their families. Everyone did great this week with it, if any families have any concerns please let me know.

The teachers and paraprofessionals also did a great job this week with the students and the heat! Everything was ready to go in all the rooms and the students were able to jump right in on learning.

The first fund-raiser of the year has started, the KidStuff coupon books. The information regarding the fund-raiser went home today, 9/10/15. The Home and School parent group does a great job with all the fund-raising they do for the school. We wouldn’t be able to have the special events that we do without them!

Below are some upcoming important dates for all to remember!
  • Thursday, Sept. 17:  Early Release Day, full-day dismissal at 11:30 a.m., no PM sessions.
  • Oct. 7: First Home and School Meeting @ ECC @ 6:30 p.m..
  • Oct. 8:  Picture Day at the ECC
  • Oct. 12 & 13:  No school for Columbus Day 10/12 and Professional Development Day for teachers 10/13
